The nonaBia, a new stage

Now on the theme ARCHITECTURE FOR ALL: BUILDING CITIZENSHIP, what it aims is the realization of a Biennial with emphasis in the didactic aspect, strictly turned to a huge public not specialized but opinion creator.

Aims to an open Biennial, wide, dynamic, characterized by dialog, by the ideas debate, propositions and solutions, amplifying it’s character, present since the first edition, of anticipate themes and help on opinion formation.

More then a reckoning exposition, São Paulo’s International Architecture Biennial, as noticed till now, is also a knowledge generator. And this is the characteristic to be valued in 2011.

On this edition the priority will be to show to the citizen that he live, interact, create, procreate, study, work, product, homing, take a walk, cheer, thrill, and feel emotion on an environment where architecture and urbanism presence is constantly. Not as a stage unanimated from life in society, but as a defining agent of its quality.

From the working place to the living space, from the rush avenue to the leisure square, from school to the girlfriend meeting point, from the hospital to the high capable transport station, what we’ll have is the explicit inseparability that is between architecture and urbanism and the society everyday, through some serial events that should take the own city as educative and dynamic exposition platform.

Is priority on nonaBia’s project that we have a rich process, simultaneously wide and profound, with eminent didactic character, that be able to crash the corporation limits and be an opinion creator, generating knowledge and that gains the cities.

The citizen, the protagonist
NonaBia aims to have as public the society as a whole and not jus the corporation.

It will be therefore, an Architecture Biennial where the public, the citizen, will be the protagonist, recognizing himself on each exposed design, on each publication, on each visit. And reckoning possibilities that Architecture and Urbanism offer in the living spaces organization, and the citizen exercises space construction.

A Biennial that get closer and dialogues with the agents involved on Architecture and Urbanism construction process and its quality, from the social movements to the market forces, from the public power to the private initiative, those who we must approach and always dialog.

An approach that happens, overall, in the sense of showing the Architecture and Urbanismstrength and importance in a fair and friendlysociety construction, that could live in a more beauty, efficient and sustainable city.

The nonaBia, an event, a process
One of the most important characteristics of the work in progress project regards to the fact that the next BIA should be characterized as a dynamic process, more than a punctual event.

We believe that, in this way, the objective of organize a thematic Biennial, contusing, wide and of international effective character will be more easily achieved.

And so, we propose that during the next months there will be at least one event related to the central theme of nonaBia on each IAB chapters and on each international representation, as a way to reassure its plurality and capillarity.

These events, that may be of distinct natures - expositions, lecture cycles or any other designed by the promoting partner - will have the double act of fortifying the Biennial and amplify its theme discussion, and its results will compose the general exposition on November, 2011.
